DIC To Make £500m Bid...?

Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum

Dubai International Capital are set to make a £500m bid for Liverpool Football Club, report BBC Sport.

According to BBC sources, DIC want to buy out both George Gillett and Tom Hicks rather than just acquire the latter's 50% stake as previously reported.

It's claimed that DIC are in the process of making a swift offer to the Americans to allow them to leave Anfield before they take on a £350m loan.

The loan is due to be finalised, possibly next week, and will allow Gillett and Hicks to pay off the £218.9m they borrowed to purchase the club last year and also begin work on the new stadium in Stanley Park.

However, they plan to place the debt onto the club, something that has both the club's board and fans worried not least due to the huge interest payments.

The Americans, and Hicks in particular, are under fire from Liverpool supporters after it was revealed earlier this week that Jurgen Klinsmann had been offered the managers job last November.

Fans are expected to protest at Monday evenings Premiership fixture with Aston Villa at Anfield.

A spokesperson for the Americans denied that they had any plans to sell up but DIC's interest could prove too good to turn down.

DIC were close to buying a 15% stake in the club in October but baulked at the £150m valuation.
