Audi could be preparing a new generation of small cars to replace the A2 and take on BMW's Mini.Although the A2 was expensive to produce, and not a great success for Audi, the company is thought to be impressed by the Mini and keen to have a second go at building a family of models to sit beneath the A2.These computer-generated images show how the A1 family of coupe and roadster could look. Potentially based on the next Polo supermini platform, the A1 would certainly be a sportier car than the upright, MPV-profiled A2.It would also have to scrap the costly aluminium construction of the A2 so starting prices could sit comfortably below the A2 and tempt motorists away from the Mini. With the A1 only expected to go on sale in 2010, possibly following on from a debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, there's nothing official from Audi on the car just yet.The company has already confirmed a line of new models that will take into new arenas, however, including the Mercedes CLK-rivalling A5 coupe arriving next year, and the Q5, a smaller brother for the Q7 off-roader that will take on the BMW X3.
