Cassim Cajee...

Rajkot: Keeping scores may not be a high profile job in cricket. But then when if you are breaking a male bastion, you are bound to catch some attention. Love of cricket changed the course of Himali Desai's life, a journey that started as a cricketer to India's first female scorer. Himali has not just covered international matches played in Rajkot since 1999, but was also the official scorer for the Abu Dhabi friendship series between India and Pakistan in 2006. "Initially people used to look at me with curiosity but I never let it bother me. I have been supported by everyone and I love the game, Himali says. So passionate is Himali about her profession that between officiating the matches she also manages to train some girls who want to follow her lead. "I tell the girls that they need to have intense concentration and love what they doing or else they won't be able to do the job," Himali adds. And then there is her constant companion, her music system. So don't be surprised if you find the lady crooning the latest Bollywood song during the match. Having fun while working maybe Himali's mantra, but the lady also believes in multi-tasking. Apart from her assignment as a scorer, there is another passion of hers. During breaks you can find the female scorer keeping score of her investments in the stock market.
